What's free and what Pro adds

The starter collection needs no account, and every scene in it renders in real time. Pro unlocks the rest of the library, and comes three ways: a monthly subscription you can cancel anytime, a yearly subscription priced for the year, or a one-time lifetime purchase that unlocks everything for good.

What it does with your location

Location is optional. You can type a city instead of granting access, and Chronoscape will use that. If you do grant access, it asks only for coarse location, accurate to about a kilometre, and uses it for exactly two things: working out the weather where you are and the real sunrise and sunset times for that spot.

Those coordinates go to Open-Meteo, a free public weather service, to fetch the current conditions, and nowhere else. There's no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The wallpaper already on your desktop stays where it is. Without a connection, Chronoscape keeps the time of day right using your Mac's own clock, and shows the clear-sky version of the scene until the weather can be checked again.
