Privacy policy

This policy explains how Elqoo ("we", "us") handles personal data in Chronoscape — both the website at chronoscape.app and the Mac app. It is short because Chronoscape is built to need very little about you.
The short version. Chronoscape has no accounts and no login. The app can use your approximate location to look up the weather, but those coordinates go straight to the weather service — they never reach our servers. We keep an email address only if you type one in to be told about the launch.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Elqoo, Rijksweg 102, 9870 Zulte, Belgium (enterprise number 0589.983.494). For any privacy question, email hello@elqoo.com.
The website
- Launch signup. If you enter your email address to hear about the release, we store that address and the date you entered it, and use it for one thing: to write to you when Chronoscape is out. Ask us and we delete it. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Visit statistics. We use Plausible Analytics, running on our own server rather than a third party's. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint you, does not follow you across other websites, and stores only aggregate figures — never a profile of an individual visitor. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing, in totals, whether anyone is reading these pages.
- Server logs. Our host records standard technical data when a page is requested — IP address, browser type, page, timestamp — to keep the site secure and running. These logs rotate and are not used to profile you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in security and reliability.
The website uses no cookies, no advertising, and no cross-site tracking.
The Mac app
- Location is optional. You can grant location access or simply type in a city. If you grant it, the app asks macOS only for coarse location, accurate to roughly a kilometre — never a precise position. Legal basis: your consent, withdrawable in System Settings at any time.
- Where location goes. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo, the weather service, to fetch current conditions and your real sunrise and sunset times. They are not sent to Elqoo, and we do not store them. When you type a city name instead, macOS resolves it to coordinates on your Mac using Apple's geocoder.
- What our servers do receive. To pick the right version of a scene, the app sends us the resulting weather code and a few clock figures — sunrise, sunset and the current minute of the day. Those are numbers about the sky, not about you, and they carry no coordinates. The app also requests the scene catalogue and images from our server, which records the usual technical log data described above. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in making the app work.
- Purchases. If Chronoscape offers a paid tier, the purchase is made through Apple, who handles payment — we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active. RevenueCat assigns a random identifier to the installation, which the app sends to our server so it can tell whether to unlock the full library. That identifier is not linked to your name or email. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you.
- Kept on your Mac. Your chosen scenes, favourites, settings and the cached wallpaper images stay on your own machine. Deleting the app removes them.
The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDK of any kind. It does not read your files, your other apps, or the rest of your desktop.
Who can see your data
We do not sell or rent personal data. We share it only with the providers that operate Chronoscape on our behalf:
- DigitalOcean — hosting for the website, the app's backend, and our own Plausible instance.
- Open-Meteo — receives coordinates from the app to return the weather for that spot.
- Apple — distribution and payment, if you buy anything.
- RevenueCat — purchase and subscription status.
- Google (Google Workspace) — our email, if you write to us.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
Launch signups are kept until you ask us to remove you, or until a reasonable period after the launch email has been sent. Email correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle your request. Server logs rotate after a short period. Visit statistics are aggregate and contain nothing personal to delete.
Children
Chronoscape is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or erase your personal data; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@elqoo.com — there is no account to log into, so a mail is all it takes.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be.
Changes
If we change how Chronoscape handles data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top.
